What is night pages?
Night pages is a self guided writing series from The Thought Co., a psychology practice in Mumbai running since 2014. For 21 nights, one short writing prompt arrives on WhatsApp at 10:30pm. Each prompt takes about three minutes. The prompts are written by practising psychologists and built from patterns we see in the room every week, the things people carry for years before they say them anywhere.
The searches that usually lead here
Why do I overthink everything at night. How to stop overthinking before sleep. Journaling prompts for overthinking. Why do I feel anxious when nothing is wrong. If you have typed some version of these into a search bar after midnight, you are the person this was written for. The search gives you an article to read. This gives the loop somewhere to go instead.
How does it work?
The first prompt arrives the night after purchase. You write wherever you like: a notebook, your phone, the back of an envelope. Nothing you write is sent to us and nothing is stored anywhere except with you.
Each night opens one subject and closes it before you sleep. Three minutes, then done. The first week stays close to the surface. The later weeks go further, and every night carries the option to skip. On night 21, the last prompt helps you read back through what you found.
Skipped nights are part of the design. The next prompt arrives whether you wrote or not. There are no streaks and no scores, and nothing reminds you of what you missed. The nights you skip were not ready. They will keep.
Who is this for?
The person who is fine, mostly, and tired of saying so. Who reads about overthinking and anxiety at midnight and closes the tab. Who has thought about therapy and not booked it. Night pages is not a replacement for therapy. It is something you can do tonight, while the rest is still a maybe.
Common questions
Is this a journaling app?
No. There is no app, no login and no account. A message arrives on WhatsApp, you write wherever you like, and the night ends. Nothing you write is sent to or stored by The Thought Co.
How is this different from a journaling app or morning pages?
A journaling app is a place: open ended, always on, yours to maintain. Morning pages ask for three unstructured pages every morning, indefinitely. Night pages is a finite series: three structured minutes at night, 21 times, each prompt written by psychologists and closed before sleep. Then it ends.
What happens if I miss a night?
Nothing. There are no streaks and no scores. The series continues and the skipped prompt stays available in the chat whenever you want it.
Can night pages help with overthinking at night?
It gives the overthinking a task with an ending, which is different from scrolling and different from trying to think your way out. It is a structured way to put one thing down before sleep. It is not therapy or treatment, and if the nights feel unmanageable, a psychologist is the better next step.
Can I gift it to someone?
Yes. The WhatsApp number entered at checkout is the one the prompts go to. Many people buy it for a sister or a friend who has been saying they are fine for a while now.
Is night pages available outside India?
Yes. It is delivered on WhatsApp, so it works anywhere, though prompts arrive on Indian night time (10:30pm IST).
It ends. That is the point.
In a category built on keeping you engaged, this sends 21 messages and then stops sending you anything at all. No streaks, no reminders, no forever subscription. The product is what you found, not how long we kept you.
we mean it about the streaksNight pages is not therapy and it does not assess or diagnose anything. If what you are carrying feels bigger than a writing prompt, that matters more than this product does.
