THE THOUGHT CO.

You don't need a script.

Nearly everyone who has ever sat down in one of our rooms has opened with "I don't really know where to start," and every therapist here has heard it enough times to stop being surprised. So if that's also your opening line, you're in excellent, extremely unoriginal company. This page won't fix that. It'll just give you a few small, different ways to arrive with something in your hands, even if that something is one half-finished sentence.

(you can also skip straight to the questions at the bottom, no one's taking attendance)
actually read this part

This page is two minutes of prep, not a crisis line and not the session itself. If today feels bigger than that, don't wait for your appointment — the line pinned at the top of this page is free, confidential, and always there. Or message us directly.

Wherever you landed — a fragment, a named pattern, a few slower breaths — it's enough to bring in. If you'd rather your therapist saw it before you walk in, send it across.

Why this page exists

Most people don't arrive at a session, first or fiftieth, with a tidy opening line ready. What actually helps is one loud thing, or one loop you keep noticing, or just steadier breathing. This page trades three ways to get there in exchange for two minutes, and none of it is graded.

How to prepare for a first therapy session in India, in one line: bring whatever's loudest, not a polished version of it. A therapist's first job is finding the thread with you, not testing whether you showed up with one already tied.

Questions people bring before a session

What if I don't know what to talk about?

Say exactly that. "I don't know where to start" is a usable first sentence. Finding the thread is your therapist's job, not a test of whether you arrived with one already tied.

Is a grounding exercise before therapy actually useful?

A short paced-breathing or senses exercise can lower physical activation before a session, which makes it easier to speak instead of brace. It's a warm-up, not a fix, and it won't do the work the session does.

Should I write things down before my appointment?

Only if it helps you arrive lighter. A few loose fragments are more useful than a polished script. Therapy works better as a conversation than a presentation.

How do I recognise a pattern instead of just a bad day?

A pattern is a move that repeats across different situations, not the situation itself. Noticing what you tend to do when you're anxious, flat, or being asked for something is often more useful to name than the specific event that triggered it this time.

What do I do if something feels too big before my session?

Don't wait for your appointment. Call Tele-MANAS on 14416, free and confidential, anytime. It's there for right now, not for your scheduled date.
